For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
(Ephesians 2:8 ESV)
We have been saved through grace. This does not mean that we can keep on sinning and flippantly confess that God will forgive us because of His grace. Think of it in human terms, as between a husband and wife. If one is unfaithful and then says, “I can keep on being unfaithful because I will be extended grace,” that spouse comes across as being callous and unloving.
So it must seem to Christ, our Savior. Yes, we have been saved through faith simply because of His love for us. It cost Him everything, but it is His gift given freely to all who choose to believe.
Knowing that we have been saved by grace should give us the desire to live our lives in such a way to show our gratitude toward the One who gave His all for us.
"Grace is the free, undeserved goodness and favor of God to mankind."
- Matthew Henry
